The next Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative in the City of Mesa will be held in Council District 6. The Desert Sands community and Casa Mia neighborhood will be the focus of the initiative. These neighborhoods are located between 78th and 82nd Streets, north of Baseline Road. The program will kick off with an orientation meeting on 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the community meeting room at Light In the Desert Church at 7930 E. Baseline Road. District 6 Councilmember Scott Somers is scheduled to speak to neighbors at the meeting.
At the meeting residents will hear about upcoming planned projects as well as Clean Sweep dumpster locations and dates. Action teams will be formed so that residents may work together to address concerns they may have and plan community activities. Residents attending the orientation meeting will have the opportunity to meet staff from various City departments such as Code Compliance, Police, Transportation and Animal Control. There will also be representatives from businesses and nonprofit agencies such as United Food Bank, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Advanced Energy Efficiency & Environmental Quality.
The City of Mesa Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative was introduced in the fall of 2006 to provide education and resources to one selected neighborhood in each Council district once per year.
