A woman accused of stealing a Lexus out of Tempe was chased and bitten by a Mesa police canine after police say she tried to hide in a shed in the backyard of a home on Monday.
Jill Pedersen, 36, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, vehicle burglary, possession of burglary tools and trespassing after police officers were able to locate her with the help of its helicopter and the dog who bit her.
About 7 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in the 1300 block of North Delmar, minutes after she was confronted by the person whose car she was breaking into, according to police.
Pedersen, who fled, left a black Lexus in the driveway in the victim’s residence that police discovered to be reported stolen out of Tempe minutes before they apprehended her.
After Pedersen was bitten by the dog, she was treated at the scene by Mesa fire officials.
She was booked into the Mesa jail.
