Arizona authorities are searching for a shooting suspect who was mistakenly released from jail.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says it never received the charging paperwork for 25-year-old Daniel Munoz Perez and he bonded out on $320 after being booked Dec. 16 on a misdemeanor warrant.
Perez is accused of shooting at Arizona Department of Public Safety officers on Dec. 10 outside a home in Casa Grande. Officers went to the house to follow up on an unspecified investigation.
Perez was injured by gunfire, admitted to a Phoenix hospital for treatment and held in a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office jail ward before being turned over to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
But Pinal County authorities say they weren't notified of the aggravated assault warrant on Perez until Dec. 23 — a week after he was released from custody.
DPS officials said Tuesday that the search for Perez continues.

When a person who will shoot at cops, is known to be a dangerous felon is "accidentally" released, someone's head should roll on it!
DPS, MCSO, PCSO, doesn't matter. I read a 3 agency FUBAR on this and am tired of people hired to perform professionally being incapable of handing simple paperwork.
Who follows these cases? Do they just pass through the systems(s) and if we are lucky, they finally get tried and convicted?
No wonder the public is frustrated and carrying their own protection. We are seeing a lot of the 'professionals' unable to find their ar*se with both hands.

I would have to agree here with the comments from the other review. It seem that that the "old boys" network is hard at work covering up all the mistake here in Pinal County. This is not the first time.
The man in charge needs to get his house in order...Mr Sheriff.

From another newspaper:
"Jeff Sandler, a deputy county attorney, said 'I really can't point fingers.' I know DPS did their job and we did our job.'"
Wow, that's great. Everyone did their jobs and a cop-killer was released from jail.
I wish I could tell my boss that when something goes horribly wrong. "Oh, let's not point fingers. Everyone did their job. Can't we all just get along?"
That Sandler guy ought to be fired just for saying something stupid like that.

Babeu's boys messed up, big time. There are procedures in place to ensure this does not happen but someone ignored them. Where was Lovelace? He could have stop it with brute force, like he does everything else. Oh, I forgot, he's suspended.

Now gang, don't be too hasty to point fingers. Sure there might be a cover up here. And where Sheriffs are elected, someone has to cover their backs when "mistakes in processes" are made. The unanswered question would be 1) Did those DPS officers who arrested Munoz on Dec 10 when engaged in a follow up visit and who apparently were involved in the incident which wounded Munoz tell the MCSO who held Munoz about the incident as well as tell Babeu's office? and 2) if told by DPS, why did MCSO release Munoz to Babeu's office after he was released from treatment?
Sure someone messed up. But we are not likely to ever find out who and why. Elected officials have to cover their behinds.
Let's hear more about Munoz. Was he one of those illegal aliens? Where so, Sheriff Joe would have egg on his face, too!
