Authorities are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Tempe Friday night.

Tempe police spokesman Mike Pooley said the accident happened just before 9 p.m. at Baseline Road and Darrow Drive.

Pooley said there was a vehicle crash at the intersection and a pedestrian crossing the street was struck by one of the vehicles and killed.

Police identified the victim Saturday as 59-year-old James David Proper from Kingman, Ariz. He said impairment was not a factor in the crash.

The intersection was shut down for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
