The driver of an 18-wheel tractor trailer knocked over a traffic signal pole and its utility box on Wednesday at the intersection of Granite Reef and Chaparral roads.

The collision closed a portion of the busy Scottsdale intersection for part of the day.

The driver was traveling eastbound on Chaparral about 1 p.m. when he struck the pole and knocked it, the utility box and the street sign over, police said. The traffic signals were inoperable for nearly four hours before power was restored to them about 4:55 p.m., according to Dan Edwards, traffic engineering analyst for the Scottsdale’s Traffic Management Systems Department.

Citing company policy, the driver of the trailer said he could not comment on the incident.
