The deadline is quickly approaching to register to vote in Queen Creek’s Town council race and home rule question.
Queen Creek voters must be registered by Feb. 8 to have a say in the March 9 election.
Voters will decide which of seven council candidates should fill three seats on the council. No incumbents are running.
Former council candidate Gail Barney is running unopposed for mayor.
Residents will also decide whether to approve home rule, a ballot measure that is currently in place but about to expire.
Home rule lets local officials determine how much to spend. If home rule fails, that amount would be left up to a state formula.
The town’s budget, which includes the general fund and other accounts, is $98 million. Under state limits, Queen Creek would be able to spend $42.9 million in 2010-11 if the measure fails.
Residents can register to vote online at www.servicearizona.com. The Queen Creek Town Clerk’s Office also has hard copies of voter registration forms available during business hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The clerk’s office is located in Town Hall, 22350 S. Ellsworth Road.
