The houses are aglow once again in time for the Christmas season, and nearly 20 families are vying for your vote to become the best decorated home for the holidays.

The Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department is once again hosting the Holiday Homes on Parade contest, which allows local residents to enter to win gift cards for their well-lit displays.

In addition to the contest, Rich and Linda Huggins will again be playing Mr. and Mrs. Claus for local children to have their picture taken with Santa. The Huggins’ began the tradition last year as they use the opportunity to exchange an opportunity to get a picture with Santa for an unwrapped toy that the couple donate to needy children in the area just before Christmas.

The contest this year runs through Dec. 14, and votes can be submitted at City Hall or online at lights@cityofmaricopa.net. This is the third year for the event, and the winner of “Best on Parade” wins a $500 gift card to Ace Hardware. Homes light up nightly between 6 and 9 p.m. during the contest.
