SUNFLOWER - A body was found Thursday in airplane wreckage submerged in the Verde River three miles southwest of Bartlett Dam, authorities said.

A helicopter pilot and an employee with a local power company spotted the wreckage while investigating a problem with high voltage power lines around the lake, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

The crew spotted a 10-foot section of blackened power lines, one of which was frayed. Below it was a chunk of airplane wing, Gregor said.

About 200 yards south of the wing, the crew spotted the nose gear and other parts of a white airplane with red stripes submerged but sticking out of the Verde River. It was in three or four pieces.

Divers later found a body inside, Gregor said. He did not know whether it was a man or woman.

It was unclear whether the plane crashed Thursday or earlier.

The FAA and the National Transportation and Safety Board will investigate the crash.
