Senate passes legislation making it easier to avoid camera tickets

  The tone of this article is absurd, including its headline. This law only brings Arizona in line with the rest of the country, where “intersection” is already defined this way. The majority of individuals who receive red light camera tickets would swear on their mothers’ graves that they had entered the intersection before the light changed, because they had crossed the stop line or the cross-walk lines.

  As the current law stands, there can be up to a 30 foot dead area where you are past the stop line, but not yet "in the intersection". This cushion serves only one purpose: inducing more drivers to "run" a red light.

  Heaven forbid that Arizona should do the common sense thing and make these citations fair and just. The police departments who "fear" it will lead to more accidents really only fear that less money will be going into city coffers.

  How right you are on all counts.

  I'll add a bit more. We have a near total lack of uniformity between cities on the duration of the yellor light. And yet in most intersections, after the yellow light turns red, there is a second or two where all lights are red. So when the judge tells you that entering the intersection a bit late might lead to your being hit by a car starting up from your right, tell him that at 45 miles per hour, in those two seconds you will have travelled 66 feet and will no longer be in the intersection. The entire system, municiple courts, police, etc. is designed to accomplish one thing. Raise money.

I think I meet you guys, your the ones tailgating me on the 202 when I'm doing 75 and you don't have the balls to go into the HOV lane. Did you know AZ has some of the best weather an one of the highest highway death rates in the nation? Why? I'm sorry, I forgot. Your rites!" Yes, old Robert E.Lee would be proud of you. Your "rites" are more important than the lives of your victims. Makes sense, this is Arizona.

  People coming here from anywhere in the nation say the same thing about Arizona drivers. The Phoenix 500 is what they all say about our roads and the people driving on them. I've come to the conclusion that the try to make the next light syndrome is so prevalent here that most drivers don't even know what they're doing. The net result of this form of insanity is higher insurance premiums and a high highway mortality rate. It's a never ending source of amusement to me as I drive down the road trying to avoid these angry, h3ll bent motorists as they careen down the road in their never ending quest to make the next light.   AZ should be more interested in safety and less in money. If AZ were serious about increasing road safety, it would: 1. Standardize yellow light duration across the valley 2. Convert Gilbert and Scottsdale from lagging to leading left (as everywhere else in the valley) 3. Require all municipalities to time the lights on major roads (not to 60+mph as some roads in Gilbert seem to be!) 4. Enact severe penalties for texting while driving (probation, then loss of license). Only then would I accept that those cameras are all about safety and not money.
