For 30 years, Louis Rosati planned fundraisers and pursued donors for an education center for hospital staff and community members at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa.

He wanted to create a place where doctors, nurses and staff could hold seminars and meet with colleagues. He also wanted a place where community members could attend health fairs.

Rosati finally got his wish Thursday when the $3.2 million facility was dedicated. The Mesa resident was especially surprised when hospital staff told him it was being named after him and his wife Rosalie. “It was an honor . . . I’m still numb from it,” the 66-year-old pathologist said.

Rosati said he’s passionate about the center because “as physicians, we spend most of our lives in continuing medical education. It’s an absolute necessity and obligation for good physicians to be lifelong learners. The best place to do it is here, locally.”

The 14,000-square-foot Louis and Rosalie Rosati Education Center features a 300-seat auditorium, a 40-seat amphitheater, a board room, multipurpose classroom and computer lab.

Community members will be able to attend education forums at the center, and support groups will use the facility for meetings, said hospital spokeswoman Sandy Cail.

One of the first public events will be June 24. The Spirit of Women wellness program features a seminar called “Balance your tires, balance your hormones: Cruising the road of midlife.” To register, call (602) 230-CARE.
