Several roads will be closed in Mesa from mid morning to late afternoon due to two events.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday due to the East Valley Veterans Parade. The roads scheduled for closure between the three-hour window are Center Street between Broadway Street and Brown Road; University Drive from Country Club Drive to Mesa Drive; Main Street from Country Club Drive to Mesa Drive; 1st Street  from Macdonald to Centennial Way; and 1st Avenue from Sirrine to Macdonald.

Drivers can still access Downtown Mesa by using Broadway Street, Brown Road, Mesa Drive and Country Club Drive.

Additional road closures delays are planned for later in the afternoon because of the Shun the Sun Half-Marathon, 5k and 10k in the city. Although the route follows several Crosscut and Consolidated canal banks, runners will cross through arterial streets between 4 and 8 p.m. at several points.

The crossings are at Mesa Drive and the Crosscut Canal; Horne at Crosscut Canal; Brown at Consolidated Canal; Stapley at Consolidated Canal; 8th Street at Consolidated Canal; University at Consolidated Canal; Gilbert and Consolidated Canal; Main Street at Consolidated Canal; Broadway at Consolidated Canal; Lindsey at Consolidated Canal; and Southern at Consolidated Canal.

Center Street will shutdown between Brown Road and 14th Street between 4 and 8 p.m., and the suggested alternate route is Country Club Drive.

Drivers who want to avoid the event wholesale can use Country Club Drive, Val Vista Drive, McKellips Road and Baseline Road.
