Mesa police arrested a gang member Thursday night who is suspected of threatening a Walgreens employee he believed was laughing at him.
Police said Gerald Bringas Navarro walked into a Walgreens near Crismon Road and Southern Avenue on Sept. 9, just as two employees were laughing at each other. According to police reports, Navarro thought they were laughing at him and told one of them he wanted to talk to him outside.
Police records said, once outside, Navarro told the employee he was a member of the Eastside Mesa Locos and that he "ran this neighborhood." The records said Navarro threatened to hurt the employee and follow him home.
The employee called police and left work early because he felt threatened.
Navarro was arrested Thursday on suspicion of threatening and intimidating by a gang member, assisting a criminal street gang and disorderly conduct. He was identified by two employees in a photo lineup, and authorities later arrested him.
