An elderly woman driving a truck hit a pregnant woman walking with her 5-month old baby in a Mesa crosswalk, leaving the infant in extremely critical condition.

Mesa police said Friday that the mother and her baby were hit around 2 p.m. Thursday by the truck as it was making a left-hand turn.

The collision overturned the stroller that the baby was in, ejecting the infant.

The baby is in extremely critical condition.

The woman was knocked to the ground but declined medical treatment.

Police determined that the elderly woman driving the truck wasn't impaired but say that the investigation is ongoing.

I wonder if the mother was in the crosswalk and had a 'walk' signal.

The intersection is a four way stop, in a school zone. This is the second accident where a vehicle has hit someone in less than three months. Last was a crossing guard right before our children were released from school! This is a very dangerous intersection & people need to wake up. We as parents need to change this at Adams Elementary School before it's worse & our children are in the crosswalk!
