The Gilbert Unified School District distributed contracts to staff Wednesday after the governing board approved salary schedules during Tuesday's meeting. Salaries are frozen for a second year in a row at the levels they were during the 2008-2009 school year.

The district decreased stipends - such as those for coaches and department heads - by 10 percent. The district was considering base-salary cuts if Proposition 100 - the temporary state sales tax increase - had failed. Now that the measure passed, many of those dollars will go to education. The Gilbert district is still looking at enrollment to determine how many teachers will be asked back from the 114 who received reduction-in-force notices earlier this month, district spokeswoman Dianne Bowers said. The process could take all summer.
