The Chandler Unified School District has received $320,000 through the First Things First program to provide scholarship opportunities for its preschool program, according to district spokesman Terry Locke.

The district is accepting applications for youngsters who meet the following criteria:

• Child lives in the Chandler district.

• Family meets guidelines for the federal free and reduced-price lunch program.

• Child is 4 years old by Aug. 31.

Seats at Hartford Sylvia Encinas, Haley, Hancock, Humphrey and Riggs elementary schools as well as a limited number for private community preschool providers will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Families who are interested should contact the district's early childhood program office at (480) 224-3913.
