A fifth-grader at Rover Elementary School in Tempe is inspiring other students to take a stand against cancer by shaving her head.
Ten-year-old Beth Maney showed up to school Wednesday with a shaved head. Her grandmother died from cancer.
“A lot of people don’t realize how many people die from cancer and I just want people to know before it touches them in some way,” said Maney.
Maney’s classmates and peers around the school wore bandanas to show their support.
“I overheard a student say to Beth today, ‘You look really beautiful, Beth,’ and it was really heartwarming," said Maney’s fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Keefer.
Beth's bravery all comes back to the one person who inspired it all.
"I could be even more myself around my grandma, she meant so much to me," said Maney.
