Gasoline prices continued to fall in the East Valley and across Arizona this week even though the nationwide average headed in the opposite direction, said AAA Arizona.
The average price of a gallon of self-service regular gas stands at $2.40 in the East Valley this week, a drop of about 1 cent from the previous week. Statewide the average is $2.43 per gallon, a drop of nearly 2 cents in the past week.
Nationwide, the average rose nearly 2 cents in the past week to $2.47, the motor club said.
The national average is being affected by rising crude oil prices and cutbacks in gasoline production by refineries, said Linda Gorman, public affairs director for AAA Arizona.
"Even amidst these issues, Arizonans shouldn't expect a swift uptick in fuel prices, as our state is not being impacted by market forces as much as other parts of the country," Gorman said. "Barring unforeseen circumstances, we will likely see a small drop in prices, followed by stabilization for the rest of the year."
