State health officials are asking Valley residents to stay out of the sun this week as weather reports forecast temperatures of up to 110 degrees in the Valley by Friday.
The Arizona Department of Health Services urge residents to take precautions to guard against heat-related illness:
• Keep drinking fluids throughout the day.
• Don’t leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
• Avoid beverages with alcohol, caffeine or high sugar content that can deplete the body.
• Limit activities between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the sun is at its peak.
Heat exposure kills as many as 50 Arizonans every year, state data shows.
