Cubs and Diamondbacks fans can enjoy the playoff games at a free viewing party today and Thursday at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa.
The venue, 1235 N. Center, will be showing Games 1 and 2 of the National League’s opening round playoffs at Chase Field, spokesman Bob Huhn said.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and fans are welcome to bring their own food and drinks. However, no alcohol will be permitted. The games begin at 7 p.m. and will be shown on the new Jumbotron scoreboard and on an additional 30-foot screen near the third baseline, Huhn said.
Hohokam is the Cubs’ Cactus League home so many fans are expected to show up to today’s event, Huhn said.
The stadium hosted viewing parties in 2003, the last time the Cubs made the playoffs. Attendance to Cubs’ events continues to grow in popularity, Huhn said.
“It’s a fun night for Cub fans and Diamondback fans to get together and watch the games if they can’t get to Chase field,” said Dave Dunne, Hohokam Stadium director.
A viewing party will also be held if the Cubs make it to Game 5, Dunne added.
Cubs memorabilia will also be given out, Huhn said.
