High drama in the life of a teenage girl is not far-fetched, but for Mallory Mitchell, 17, her form is in front of an audience at the Desert Stages Theatre in Scottsdale.
For more than half her life — nine years — she has been involved in many productions.
“I kind of lost count. Seventy or so,” the Cave Creek resident says.
Her favorite character to portray was Wendy in “Peter Pan.” But the play she enjoys the most is “In the Kingdom of Clouds,” written by the late Gerry Cullity, who ran the theater for years. She recalls being in that play four times.
The Horizon High School senior also directs productions during summer camp.
Mitchell, originally from Shreveport, La., spends many hours each day rehearsing as an actor and director.
She’s also the president of her school’s March of Dimes club and finds time to keep straight A’s in her courses.
Mitchell said she would eventually like to produce, direct or do something behind the scenes. Looking around the Desert Stages facility near Scottsdale Fashion Square, she says: “This is my home.”
