Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert was honored as one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the Valley by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Phoenix.

The library was one of three structures, out of 107 submitted, that was honored earlier this month by the association's Green Buildings Committee.

The library stood out among public libraries submitted in that it used a full 10 percent less energy per square foot than other libraries submitted, according to BOMA. Schools and office buildings were honored in two different categories.

The group launched the Kilowatt Krackdown initiative in July as a challenge to the Valley to decrease general energy consumption 30 percent by 2012.

For more information about the library, contact the Gilbert public information office at (480) 503-6766 or publicinformation@gilbertaz.gov.
