A Mesa man and woman were arrested in Gilbert early Sunday after they stole a car and fled from officers, police said.
Gilbert police arrested David Meredith and Naomi Stafford, both 30, about 5 a.m. Officers began following the two near Gilbert Road and Encinas Street after receiving a stolen vehicle report.
Meredith was driving the stolen car and Stafford was following him in another vehicle, police said.
Officers pulled over Stafford and continued to trail Meredith, who drove into a nearby neighborhood.
After noticing the officers, Meredith jumped out of his moving car, which crashed into a fence and wall. He then took off running, hopping several fences and walls.
Police caught him shortly later, and officers found several items in the car believed to be involved in burglaries.
