A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized with first- and second-degree burns covering about 50 percent of his body after refueling his moped on Thursday.
The boy told fire personnel he was refueling his moped when an explosion occurred about 11 a.m. in the 600 block of North Country Club Drive west of McClintock Drive, according to Paul Nies, a Chandler fire spokesman.
The boy, whose name and condition were unavailable, was taken to the burn unit of Maricopa Medical Center, Nies said.
