Check out a listing of some of the Memorial day events that are going on.


The Memorial Day Arizona Urban Family Fundraising Picnic will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Kiwanis Park, 6111 S. All-America Way. Event includes barbecue, raffle, concert, fashion show, basketball and volleyball tournaments, and a dance party. Proceeds will benefit families and youths of the community through Self Made Men, Women & Children Inc. and the Mentor Me Program. Admission is $10 per person. Information: (480) 287-3754.

A Memorial Day service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 4310 E. Southern Ave., and 11 a.m. Monday at Double Butte Cemetery, 2505 W. Broadway Road, Tempe. It is sponsored by American Legion William Bloys Post 2, Unit 2, Squadron 2 and Chapter 2, VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary 3632. Pot-luck dinner held after services at Post Home, 2125 S. Industrial Park Ave. Service is free. Information: (480) 967-2968.


Avenue of Flags Ceremony is 8:30 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Main St. Event will include flag ceremony, coffee, doughnuts and water. Event is free. Information: (480) 832-2850.

Catholic Cemeteries Memorial Day Mass is 8 a.m. Monday at Queen of Heaven Cemetery & Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Road. Mass will honor and commemorate all military personnel, veterans and loved ones who have died. The unveiling and blessing of St. Anne statue will immediately follow the Mass. Service is free. Tuff Traxx Memorial Day 1000 Race is 10 a.m. Monday at the slot-car raceway, 9333 E. Apache Trail, Suite 104. Event includes two tracks, two 500-lap races and pizza. Cost is $20 per person. Information: (480) 986-2225.


Memorial Day Worship Celebration is 9 a.m. Sunday at Historic First Presbyterian Church, 402 W. Monroe St. Event includes worship, recognition of sacrifices made and service rendered, reception color guard, wreath, Navy hymns and food. Admission is free. Information: (602) 254-6356.

The VA's National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona Memorial Day event will be 8 a.m. Monday at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix. The ceremony includes a flyover by military jets, patriotic songs, a parade of colors, placing of wreaths, rifle volleys and carillon bells, and Gov. Janet Napolitano will read the proclamation. Two joint Memorial Day Services with Honor Guard will be 8:30 a.m. Monday at Camelback Cemetery, 6800 E. McDonald, Paradise Valley, and 10 a.m. at Scottsdale Civic Center, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. Services are free. Information: (480) 941-0130.
