If checking out the Christmas lights at Michael Pollack's Mesa office is part of your annual ritual, either forget about it this year or head to Tempe.

The prominent real estate businessman has moved the huge lights display to his theater, Pollack Cinemas, near Elliot Road and McClintock Drive, from its erstwhile holiday season digs at his office near Baseline and Alma School roads.

Pollack said the Tempe location is just a more accessible site for the public, has better parking, and isn't as cold for Santa and the kids inside the theater lobby.

"We thought we'd do it where it's easier for people to enjoy the festivities," Pollack said. "And it used to be hard on Santa Claus and the children at night outside the (Mesa) office, where it was so cold in December."

Pollack said the decorations, complete with animations and a train and Santa and the elves, are as elaborate as they've been for the last nine years. And they've been on since Dec. 1.

"The animations are there. The lights are there. I think it looks even more spread out because it's a larger frontage to work with," Pollack said.

Santa will be in the theater lobby on Saturday and Sunday and then again on Dec. 19-20 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Anyone can walk inside the lobby and take photos with Santa for free, as long as they bring their own camera, Pollack said.

So was it a business move, too, to draw more people to the theater?

"It's possible," Pollack said, "that people will drop by and watch a movie, too. But thousands of people come to the theater anyway."

The lights will remain on until Jan 1.
