Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is shutting down county jails in anticipation of protests against Arizona’s immigration law.
The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/O3VfCc) reports the sheriff’s office plans to close all six of its jails Saturday because of a large protest planned in the evening.
Officials say they expect between 1,000 and 4,000 demonstrators outside the Phoenix complex of canvas jail tents, known as “Tent City.”
Family and friends will not be permitted to visit inmates during the closure.
Groups who plan to hold vigil outside Tent City include Puente Arizona and the Unitarian Universalist Association.
A spokesman for the Unitarians says the group wanted to protest before the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the controversial immigration measure.
The Supreme Court is expected to announce a ruling next week.

All the media I saw kept saying there were crowds of ' thousands ' and called them between 2 and 4 thousand.
The video / pictures I saw were of no more than 6 - 7 HUNDRED not THOUSANDS.
But then what else can we expect from pro invading alien media that has shown nothing but smiling hispanics since Obama overthrew the rule of law in the U.S. and declared young invading aliens would not be deported but instead would be allowed to compete with legal Americans and legal residents for jobs.
Strange I haven't seen any pictures / video of people protesting Obama's decision. The media tries to create the impression that EVERYONE is in agreement with Obama's action.

When we have people who are not even citizens of our counrty protesting the conditions of a taxpayer funded jail, the game is over. The liberals have allowed these people to laugh at our laws and insult those who enforce them.

What is most insulting is that they think they have the right to tell us how to run our country. Yet I don't hear them complain about how things should change in their country of origin!

I wish the media would stop calling these organized pro-illegal riots "immigration protests" - since the law doesn't deal with immigrants, only illegal aliens.

Good plan, Joe. Too bad these racist agenda-driven jerks have messed things up for the others that would like to or need to visit their relatives and friends.

This is kind of funny that the he will close the jails to visitors. There will be some unhappy family and friends that day visiting their prisoners. [beam]
