Nearly 125 officers from local agencies began saturation patrols in the East Valley Friday night.
The Holiday DUI Task Force will seek out impaired drivers on the road, while conducting traffic stops for violations that they observe and enforcing a "zero tolerance" policy for underage drinkers.
Drivers found to be impaired by alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested and transported to the command post for processing during the next few weeks of the holiday season.
This year's participating agencies will include police departments from throughout the East Valley as well as state agencies and tribal police departments.
Those with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or above will be arrested. The extreme DUI law prohibits those to drive if a BAC is .15 or above. The super extreme law enhances the penalties to include mandatory jail terms if a BAC level is .20 or higher.
In December 2010, officers from 12 agencies participating in a 15-day task force arrested 2,516 drivers for DUI.

Why are we still fighting this garbage of drinking and driving? Anyone causght with BAC over the legal limit should have their license taken away. If you are not mature and responsible enough not to drink and drive, then walk. Now for the idiots who will invariably comment about their right to drink and drive and government intrusion and blah, blah, blah. If someone in your family was hurt or killed by a drunken, or drug impaired driver, I believe you would not be saying extremely stupid things. I have treated enough humans who have been hurt by these ignorant and selfish clowns who insist it's their god-given right to operate a motor vehicle while impaired.
