With more than 10,000 hours of experience training dogs, Louis Robinson has finally started doing it for a living.

The Tempe man spends time in Scottsdale’s Chaparral Park skating with his own German shepherd, Lucy, tiring her out before going to the dog park. He finds this calms the 17-month-old puppy around other dogs.

Robinson said he trained military dogs for four years in the U.S. Air Force. Earlier this year, the transplant from Champaign, Ill., began his business, Robinson Dog Training. “I was tired of a regular job,” he said.

With family living in the Valley, Robinson moved here after leaving the military in 1999. He worked at a marketing company in Phoenix and took some video classes at Scottsdale Community College, where he gained skills to sell and market himself.

“I always thought it would be cool to always have a dog with me,” Robinson said.

His Web site can be found at www.gotdogtraining.com.
