Paz de Cristo Outreach Center in Mesa received a grant from an unnamed donor that will bolster food supplies for the nonprofit just in time for its annual Thanksgiving Day dinner.

But that story isn’t common this year in the East Valley.

Food banks brace for busy Thanksgiving

“Fortunately for us, we will be able to give what we give on Thanksgiving and Christmas because of that grant,” director Michael Boos said. “I’m seeing that all of the service agencies are struggling to meet their goals, and I know that some of them have had to make cutbacks and some of them have had to reduce what they can give.”
