Mesa’s quest for a new arts and culture director has been narrowed to a woman who is now the president of the Flint Cultural Center Corp. in Michigan.

Cindy Ornstein will meet with Mesa arts supporters on Thursday, and the city will ask participants to evaluate her as Mesa enters the final steps of filing the now-vacant position.

Ornstein’s resume states she oversees a 33-acre cultural campus that includes a 2,000-seat auditorium, a museum and planetarium. She had held the post since 2000.

She also has held high-level positions at the Allentown Art Museum and the Mayfair Festival of the Arts, both in Pennsylvania. Ornstein other experience includes corporate communications, advertising copywriting, journalist, theater actor and director.

Mesa conducted a nationwide search for the job to replace Johann Zietsman, who left late last year for a job in Calgary, Canada.
