Mesa police have arrested a 73-year-old school bus driver on suspicion of sexual conduct with two female relatives, ages 10 and 8.
James Fred Chubb faces seven counts of sexual conduct with a minor and six counts of child molestation. Police said Chubb told investigators on Monday he touched both victims under their clothing three to four times a week in his bedroom.
The victims also were forced to touch Chubb several times in his bedroom, in a shed and in his truck, according to court records. The victims described several incidents to police they said occurred from October 2002 until last month.
Chubb was arrested Monday night and remains in custody at Maricopa County’s Madison Street Jail in Phoenix.
Police have not accused Chubb of any crimes on school property or connected to his employment as a bus driver. However, investigators said Chubb may have additional victims, and they request anyone with information to call the Mesa Police Department at (480) 644-2211.
Mesa Unified School District spokesman Joe O’Reilly said Chubb resigned this semester before the police allegations surfaced. O’Reilly said the resignation was not scheduled to take effect until the end of the school year, but Chubb no longer drives for the district.
O’Reilly said the district sent letters to the parents of all children on Chubb’s bus routes informing them of the police investigation.
