Mesa police have identified a man and woman who died in a car in a school parking lot as a result of what's being called a homicide/suicide.
Sgt. Tony Landato says a neighborhood resident called police on Sunday to report a vehicle with someone who appeared to be injured.
Responding officers found the body of a man and a wounded woman who died at a hospital.
Police on Monday identified them as 25-year-old Jonathan Vargas and 22-year-old Victoria Gameros.
Landato say Vargas and Gameros lived together and were in a relationship for over two years.
He says it's not known what led up to the incident but that Vargas was responsible for the shootings.
Landato says they had no connection to the school other than the location of the shooting.
Mesa police say the deaths of a man and woman found in a school parking lot are being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Landato says passers-by at Poston Junior High School near 25th and Adobe streets called 911 around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday to report a suspicious vehicle with someone who appeared to be injured.
Landato says officers arrived and found the body of a man and a woman who was injured inside the vehicle.
Authorities say the woman was taken to a hospital where she died.
Landato says police are not disclosing the manner of death, but preliminary evidence indicates a murder-suicide.
He did not release their identities but described them as young adults.
Detectives say there is no connection between the couple and the school.
