The Chandler Police Department Forensic Services Section has been awarded a $6,100 grant by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
The grant will pay for two criminalists to attend a course at Indiana University that will help prepare them for a career in forensic blood alcohol analysis by introducing them to current research and world-renowned experts.
It will cover how traffic safety and alcohol are related, alcohol chemistry, alcohol physiology, the principles of blood alcohol analysis and the presentation of evidence in the courtroom.
The Chandler Forensic Services Section analyzes approximately 2,300 blood alcohol cases annually for the City of Chandler and the Town of Gilbert.
