Valley Metro Rail and Chandler will share plans Monday for a north-south transit corridor from west Chandler to downtown Tempe, including a street car and a new bus service. The streetcar option would run along Mill Avenue, from downtown Tempe to Southern Avenue, and would open in 2016.
A bus route with stops every mile would run along Rural Road, starting near downtown Tempe to Chandler Boulevard. On Chandler, it would turn to a park-and-ride lot at Kyrene Road and to the Chandler Fashion Center. A study has recommended the bus route, but there is no funding for it under Proposition 400, a half-cent sales tax for transportation projects that voters renewed in 2004.
Transit officials will share details and seek input from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Desert Breeze Police Substation, 251 N. Desert Breeze Blvd., Chandler.
