Updated information about the process to determine the future use of Tempe's Bustoz, McKemy, and Meyer school facilities is now available at www.tempeschools.org/schoolrepurpose.
The Tempe Elementary School District governing board voted earlier this year to close these campuses beginning this school year due to enrollment decline and budget. The district is seeking tenants for the facilities that will benefit the community until the campuses can be opened to students again.
Plans will be accepted online until noon Sept. 23. A Repurposing Review Team of community members, parents and district personnel will meet on Sept. 26 to look over all the plans. Applicants of plans that meet the criteria will be asked to make a short presentation in early October. The review team will recommend a list of semi-finalists to the superintendent by Oct. 6, with a list of semi-finalists to be announced Oct. 7.
Following community presentations, the earliest meeting the governing board would consider a vote on the repurposing would be Nov. 16.
