A treasurer for the Phoenix Catholic Diocese Women's Organization was arrested Wednesday for allegedly embezzling more than $11,000 from the organization over a two-year period.

Yvonne Miles, 49, of Gilbert was arrested on suspicion of theft and forgery-related charges at the organization's office based on an investigation between July 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010.

As treasurer, Miles had access to the organization's bank account and was one of its signers.

The account required two signatures on each check. Miles wrote more than 55 checks to herself, forging the second signature and desposited the checks into her personal checking account, police said.

Miles is being held in the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail.
