Valley Metro riders across much of the East Valley will continue to receive service for at least the rest of July after two sides of a labor dispute found a temporary resolution.

A press release sent by Valley Metro states the company’s bus operator, First Transit, and the bus operators’ union, ATU 1433, reached an agreement to avoid a strike and continue labor negotiations throughout the month. Approximately 40 routes across Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert would have shutdown had the union gone on strike, but the two sides came to an agreement that will keep those routes as negotiations continue.

“We’re pleased that First Transit and the ATU have agreed to continue discussions and make progress on an agreement that supports operators and riders,” said Tempe mayor Mark Mitchell in the release.
