Great Story!! We had 4 grapefruit trees that were so loaded with fantastic fruit that they were almost touching the ground. We tried to get someone to pick the fruit for the food banks and we were told (by 3 different food banks) that there was no one in the east valley that would do it. We live only about 4 blocks from the Groves. We have been slowly picking the fruit ourselves (my husband is disabled and cannot do it) and disposing of it in the weekly trash pickup to avoid letting the fruit rot on the trees. We were told that if we picked the fruit and packaged it properly that they MIGHT be able to find someone to come and pick it up if we put it out by the street. There was just no way for us to pick and package all of this. We both take medicines that keep us from eating the citrus.

Great story ! Now get those lazy Arcadia and Tempe citrus owners to do the same, effectively blocking the incursion of Roof Rats as in the past.
BTW - once again, the Trib can't spell worth squat. Here is a direct snip from the article:
.." .. pickers take their pales to a large....."
The word is PAILS, you idiots!
