Tempe police, in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, is beefing up patrols until April 25th in an effort to reduce collisions.

The department will be providing additional officers for patrols at high–accident intersections and for enforcing commercial vehicle rules, impaired driving laws, and school zone speeds.

The top three intersections for collisions in Tempe in 2009 were:

• Rural Road and University Drive (69 collisions)

• Broadway Road and McClintock Drive (64 collisions)

• Rural Road and Southern Avenue (62 collisions)
