A missing 31-year-old hiker was located in thick terrain northeast of Apache Junction, and rescue crews from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office performed a helicopter rescue.

The hiker, whose name was not available, was due to return on Thursday and was found about 10:30 a.m. Friday near the trail head of First Water Trail, roughly eight miles northeast of Apache Junction, according to Deputy Lindsay Smith of the sheriff’s office.

The hiker said he may have broken a wrist and injured his leg, according to information from the sheriff’s office.

The hiker’s family discovered his car at the trail head Thursday and reported him missing.
