The East Valley's own "Iron Chef" competition is scheduled Monday evening at Villa Siena Ballroom in Gilbert to benefit Mesa's United Food Bank.
The wrap-up party for the summer-long Christmas in July food drive pits top chefs from East Valley restaurants, representing five area chambers of commerce, as they prepare haute cuisine on site from the contents of the food bank's food boxes.
Dishes will be judged by children who take part in United Food Bank's Kids' Cafe program at local schools. Kids Cafe provides hundreds of East Valley kids with an evening meal.
Chambers from Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe have been collecting food and money to help stock the food bank during the summer, when donations typically drop off.
