The family of a hit-and-run victim says they forgive the person responsible.
22-year-old Mason Merrill died Wednesday in Mesa after he crashed into a truck, with a 15-year-old driver.
Police say the teen only had a driver's permit.
Authorities say the teen and three other people inside the truck jumped out, ran over to Mason and then fled from the scene.
Mason’s youngest sister Carlie says she was waiting for her brother to come home when she learned what happened.
Carlie says she has already forgiven the underage driver.
"We know it's an accident and we're not going to sit here and be angry at this kid," said Carlie. “I know my brother and I know his loving heart and my brother would not want us to be angry at him."
A couple years ago, Mason was serving on a mission trip for his church in Mexico when he was diagnosed with cancer.
“It was rough, but he beat it and went into remission,” said Carlie
