It's the Gilbertians vs. the Chandlerlites, but the victors will be families in both communities.
Residents and employees in the two municipalities are vying to see which one can collect the largest quantity of donations for local food banks by May 31. The losing town or city officials have to wear shirts with the other community's name during a televised public meeting.
Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and Gilbert Mayor John Lewis each predicted their community will be victorious. But, Lewis pointed out, ultimately everyone wins "as our local families enjoy wholesome food on their tables."
To find out where you can donate canned goods, call your local town or city hall.
