The intersection of Val Vista Drive and Baseline Road in Gilbert was briefly closed Thursday due to two-vehicle crash that caused a 27-year-old man to be hospitalized for his injuries and caused minor injuries to a teenage boy.
A Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 27-year-old man was traveling southbound on Val Vista and attempting to turn east onto Baseline Road shortly before 3 p.m. when his car was struck by a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 16-year-old boy who was traveling north on Val Vista, according to Gilbert police.
The man was taken to a local hospital with significant injuries but was last reported to be conscious and talking at the hospital, police said.
Authorities initially expected the road to be closed for at least two hours during the investigation into the crash, but later opened one lane of traffic in the area.
It was not immediately known whether either the man or the boy would be cited for the crash.
