PRESCOTT - Authorities have identified the pilot killed in the crash of a small plane near Paulden as a Texas resident.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says 49-year-old Curtis Lynn Jarvis of Houston died when the plane went down Wednesday evening. He was the only one on board.

Sheriff's deputies and fire crews responding to a crash report found Jarvis' crumpled single-engine RV-6 aircraft just west of a ranch house in a rural area. The plane was heavily damaged but there was no fire.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn says National Transportation Safety Board investigators will determine the cause of the crash.

Paulden is about 100 miles north of Phoenix.
