The Kyrene Elementary School District is requesting the School Redistricting Commission not place a unification plan for the district on the ballot in November 2008.

The district has two plans on the board to consider: to combine the Kyrene Elementary, Tempe Elementary and Tempe Union High school districts into one K-12 district; or create two K-12 districts along the current elementary boundaries.

"The years of disruption and distraction from our mission and the reallocation of resources that would be required to accomplish unification would seriously impair our ability to provide the quality education that Kyrene's children deserve and that our community expects, therefore we cannot support the unification plan," wrote the governing board in their response to the redistricting commission.

Each of the three East Valley school districts are required to submit their responses to the redistricting commission by Sept. 15.
