Named a Playful City, USA, for the seventh straight year, Chandler will celebrate that distinction and Mayor Jay Tibshraeny’s health initiative with Saturday’s Chandler Mayor’s Day of Play.
The free, all-ages celebration of the community’s health, wellness and fitness is Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tumbleweed Park (2250 S. McQueen Road) on the southwest corner of McQueen and Germann Roads.
“This event is a sign of the times in Chandler and nationwide, where people are taking serious their health and wellness,” Tibshraeny said. “And this is an extension of all the family activates in Chandler as well as my initiative on health and wellness.”
The event is hosted by the City of Chandler and presented by Banner Children’s and ShapeUpUS.org.
Chandler is one of 16 U.S. cities named a Playful City, USA, for seven consecutive years since the KaBOOM program began in 2007.
New to this year’s Day of Play is a costume contest for kids up to age 10 who dress up as their favorite athlete, sports equipment, healthy snack, fruit, or anything fitting the “health, wellness and fitness” theme. Also new this year is a teen fitness challenge and a 5K foam fun run.
“It’s a sign of success that every year this even gets bigger,” Tibshraeny said.
With activities that will get the kids “playing and their minds active,” parents can explore the various booths on health, wellness and fitness.
