The Gilbert Unified School District will begin its fullest schedule of school construction projects and renovations in December.
"There will probably be some headaches," said Clyde Dangerfield, assistant superintendent of business services.
The district started architectural preparations for several of its major projects that will be built first from the proceeds of a $107.5 million bond issue approved by voters in November.
Construction is expected to begin at the new elementary school and South Valley Junior High School in December.
However, Dangerfield said the original start date for a new high school — July 2006, with opening in August 2007 — may be postponed so as not to raise taxes. The district has not made any final decisions.
Dangerfield said the tight construction schedule is being affected by materials shortages and workers heading to Louisiana to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August.
Whether the district will be able to stick to its schedule: "That’s our goal," he said. "I think we’ll get there, but it will be a challenge."
