The newest Loop 202 section opened just after noon Friday. The three-mile segment lets drivers cross U.S. 60 on the Loop 202 for the first time. It extends the freeway from roughly Baseline Road to University Drive.
The project also included finishing the SuperRedTan interchange between U.S. 60 and the Loop 202.
The Loop 202 is also known as the Santan Freeway south of U.S. 60 and the Red Mountain Freeway north of there.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is constructing the last Loop 202 segment, from University Drive to Power Road. That is set to open next summer.
