With the Affordable Care Act’s unveiling of the health insurance marketplace on October 1, 2013, many Valley residents are questioning how they will be affected by the major health changes and mandates.

One East Valley business, Health Insurance Express, Inc., opens on October 1 to help answer those questions. Located in Mesa on Southern Avenue and Power Road, Health Insurance Expresswill celebrate its grand opening on the same day that the Marketplace opens in order to help Valley residents navigate the Affordable Care Act and the new health insurance plans that will be available.

The president of Health Insurance Express, Alan Leafman, expects that there will be a flood of questions, and possibly more confusion, once the Marketplace officially opens for business. He urges Valley residents to become educated and consult a professional broker about the different plans before making a health insurancepurchase.

“We want to simplify the process of shopping for health care and help people not only understand the changes, but also choose a plan that is truly best for them,” said Leafman. “There will be five differenttypes of plans available on the Marketplace, with monthly rates for single coverage starting from $200 to $400depending on your age, but it isn’t as cut and dry as it may seem. It is important to find a plan that is right for you, including what your health needs are, what your income is, what subsidies may be available to you, and how diligent you are when it comes to your preventative health care.If you are eligible for a subsidy your rate could be half or less the actual charge.”

The Health Insurance Express grand opening event is on Tuesday, October 1 from noon to 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public, featuring a special ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mesa Chamber at 4 p.m. Event attendees will be able to compare health plans, receive quotes and get educational information from expert staff. All attendees will also receive a free discount prescription drug card.

Health Insurance Express is located at 1155 S. Power Rd, Ste. 110B, Mesa, AZ 85206.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for the event on the Health Insurance Express Facebook page.
